So off I went, a new computer, 3D Studio Max and a head full of magic that soon dispersed the moment I tried to use the program. What the hell are Gizmos, world modifiers and bloody nerbs, who writes these programmes, cant they use English, I had been thrown in tech city. Every time I opened the manuals for the program I felt I was arguing with a lawyer. After three months of swearing and cursing I eventually started to get the hang of things, this was achieved by throwing most of the manual out of the window and started to use the hands on approach. You know the principle; "you will never get it right without first getting it wrong"! Works every time. By using my own unconventional approach my work started to look different than everybody else's, this I felt was down to my understanding of lighting and the way I treated the materials. All the work I had seen had been in super colour, "you know the scenario", Technicolor green for grass, swimming pool blue for sea and pink for people. The first thing I did was to start to make my own textures using Photoshop, yet another learning curve, eventually this started to reap its own rewards, it was at this stage that I could have sat back, as it was very easy to model an object or scene and then touch up anything that was badly modelled, plus I could add my atmosphere and dirt, giving me the effect that I had strived so hard to achieve. This episode had taken two years of solid commitment but at least I knew what I was doing or so I thought. But I still wasn't satisfied. It now had to move!
