SUBMISSION GUIDELINES GOOD VIBES MAGAZINE NONFICTION Editor Thomas Roche
is DO NOT SEND UNSOLICITED ARTICLES. Instead, send a 50-100 word summary Writing for Good Vibes magazine must be stylish but straightforward -- and, above all, accurate. While writing by and about people of specific sexual preferences is encouraged, articles for Good Vibrations must be accessible to an audience that includes people of all genders and orientations. In other words, do not assume any particular proclivity or orientation on the part of your reader. This includes heterosexuality. Pitches must fall into one of the following categories. Please indicate in your pitch what section it falls under. If you have an idea for an article that doesn't fit in one of these, mention that upfront and if I like the idea I'll see if I can't fit it in. Please note, however, that at this time we do not use freelance book or video reviews. DID YOU KNOW? Sexual "trivia," 300 to 500 words. Short articles on interesting
or unusual sexual facts or strange sexual events in history and the sciences.
The more obscure the topic the better, but the article must EROTICA/PORNOGRAPHY: 700 to 1200 words. Articles on recorded/printed pornography and erotica -- pictures, books, magazines, film, video, audio, and interactive. Must be sexy, current, and well-informed. In-depth reviews of important erotic books and films, interviews with erotic writers, actors, and filmmakers, personal essays and experiences with erotic media. Anything about live performers will go in FEATURES. Humor appreciated. MALE PLEASURE, FEMALE PLEASURE, TRANS PLEASURE: 700 to 1200 words. Articles on unusual or creative aspects of pleasuring men, women, OR trans folks (3 separate sections), including techniques, variations, and sexual desire. Any instructions must be easy to follow; it must be sexy to read and factually accurate. Articles for these 3 sections must be about a specific behavior or style. Humor appreciated. SEX AND PARENTING: 700 to 1200 words. Articles and essays on aspects of sexuality as they apply to parenting, from sex and fertility to sex during pregnancy to talking to your kids about sex to making time for masturbation between work and parent-teacher conferences. Must have a positive outlook on both parenting and sex. Humor appreciated. SEX AND DISABILITY: 700 to 2000 words. Sexuality for people with disability and their partners. Disability is defined as any organic condition, physical or psychological, which limits a persons mobility, communication, or interaction. Must have a specific focus on sex and disability. FEATURES/CURRENT EVENTS: 1000 to 1500 words. A catch-all category which includes politics, the media, celebrity profiles and other topical matters.Any profiles in this category must be in narrative format -- NOT Q&A. Fiction for Good Vibes Magazine must be straightforward in language and have some sort of plot or story. All sexual orientations are encouraged, especially ones we haven't thought of yet. Transgender erotica is also encouraged. While a sex positive attitude is preferred, feel free to engage your characters in edgy or risky scenarios. The sexual element must comprise the bulk of the story! DO NOT SEND EMAIL SUBMISSIONS. Fiction submissions are only accepted in hardcopy. Please send the entire story. Please do not query on fiction or send "samples." Please also note that we do not consider unsolicited reprints under any circumstances. If we want a reprint, we will contact you. Please double space your manuscript, put your full legal name and address and the title of the piece on the front page, and, if applicable, your desired pseudonym. Please number the pages and either enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope large enough and with enough postage for the return of the manuscript, or include just a business-sized stamped, self-addressed envelope and mark your manuscript "DISPOSABLE."
