Altogether Now by Sheela Ardrian

A soft rain falls outside the window,
Warm with summer, like the sheen of sweat
That glistens on our sated skin.

We three make miracles between us
As stormclouds mate in sultry skies
To bring forth lightning and thunder.

Hand in hand in hand we walk
Down the midway at the county fair,
The lights on the rides no brighter than our eyes.

Stares follow us like flies, but I say
They're all just jealous
Of the easy peace we feel with each other.

I can remember when
Bitter winds chilled my bones
And sharp words cut my lips as I spoke them.

Then I met the two of you,
And the green leaves of jealousy
Wilted on the vine.

Tonight, the shadows hold their silence
As we lie entwined, here in our own house,
In our own broad bed.

The rain rustles away into distance;
We open the window wide
To let the hot wet air roll over us

As we lie entwined, here in our own house,
The two of you and me
In our altogether.
