touch water, touch wood
by Sheela Ardrian

tumbled together, our bodies
find purchase in unexpected places
embracing a sudden union of
opposites attracted each to other

touch water, touch wood

our mouths lips tongues teeth
silently say volumes, evolving
speech out of speechlessness
whole books of body language

feel wind, feel heat

our parts no more apart but
a part of something larger
primal beast with two backs
and two hearts beating, beating

hear music, hear laughter

in this moment, history crushed
between our two breasts, all
things old made new again
time hope love war peace
