Kevin's
Book Review Corner
Written and edited from a woman's perspective, this collection brings together a number of women who while they each write erotica from different viewpoints, share a common passion for desire. They may use a different written method to get their point across. For some it was fiction, for others it was poetry and for others it was more of a personal narrative but in each case it works as they write of passion and desire. As the editor explains in the introduction, "While putting Cliterature together, I looked for that kind of buzz, a sense I got when a writer was getting off on her own work and even more intriguingly-by her self. When a woman is fully engaged in her desire there's a sort of fearlessness, an urge that overtakes and pushes the work out. Things happen faster. Words hit the page with more power. I know this feeling because I experience it when I write erotica. There's a high I get from working myself into a state of wanting." (Page 7) The whole point of writing, especially in fiction, is to bring the work alive for the reader so that he or she responds. It certainly works in this case, as this is a very interesting collection. Space limitations prevent me from detailing each and every contribution, so the following three are examples of just some of the enjoyable contributions in the book. "Iola" by Ms. Cynthia features Iola new and naive to the world of training. She had applied to serve a Dominatrix and been accepted and she has no idea what is in store for her. Soon she finds out just how personally liberating it can be to be totally submissive. There is a lot packed into this short story of just a few pages. "Push Play" by Carolyn Caizzi revolves a young coed living in a dorm. She is a lesbian, a bit of an exhibitionist and loves to record her entire life by hidden camera for a college project. After being seen naked on the way to the shower by a female visitor to the dorm, the visitor shows up at her door to continue things. What will the camera see? "My Cyber-Sexual Master" by Lizbeth Dusseau contains a story about a woman learning about what it really means to be worthy of a Master. By e-mail commands, the Master tells her what to do while she is at work and asserts his control. Control that she wanted, desired and craved until she is left spent. This is a story that will leave you looking at your co-workers a little differently. While these examples as well as a number of the other contributions feature bondage at some level as a theme or background setting, all the stories, poetry and personal narratives share a commonality of pushing the envelope. In each case, the woman involved is seeking a higher level of pleasure and desire and willing to do or allow done to her, what is needed for that goal to be attained. While she may or may not be in control of events, the women depicted are firmly in control of their quest for desire and pleasure. Written by women, edited by a woman, this collection is clearly designed for a female readership. However, it also works from a male perspective and could be very useful for couples to use as they see fit. At 156 pages featuring twenty-five submissions by eighteen contributors, there is something in here guaranteed to please every reader. This collection is well worth your time to read and enjoy.
