As noted in the forward, sex is not just the simple concept of genital-to-genital
activity.
"Sex is an emotional, physical, sensual, intellectual experience through
which we can learn more about ourselves and our partners."
While I agree totally with that statement, I would also add that when
done right, it should be a messy enterprise indeed. But, I digress.
What follows in this interesting non-fiction work is a book devoted
to the concept that the reader alone holds the key to his or her own
sexual happiness. You don't need a therapist or counselor, what you
need to do is explore your own inner thoughts, dreams and fears. To
do so, Author Jo-Anne Baker, presents various techniques and exercises
designed not only to help the reader find the key or keys within, but
to also release their blocked sexuality.
Using her own life experiences as a guide in the journey to healing
and beyond, Jo-Anne Baker argues that childhood experiences have a lasting
impression today. She makes the point that restrained thoughts or suppressions
of wants and desires have roots in childhood experiences. Once those
are fully explored, understood and healed, one can move forward and
explore new sexual realms. She argues that each person, once healed,
can have a great sex life and share that with a loving partner.
The work is roughly broken up into two sections. The first section
is devoted to understanding the past. It is devoted to ridding oneself
of the negative legacy, if there was one, of childhood in regards to
sexuality through various techniques and exercises. Even if you think
this section does not apply to you, the techniques described are interesting
and can be helpful.
Moving forward is the theme for the reader of the second half of the
book. While each chapter contains exercises and techniques through out
the book, starting with Chapter 5: Mates In Heaven, Intimacy For
Couples, things become very graphic and informative. Techniques
for various erotic massages to be performed on a man or woman are discussed
in regards to genitalia of both sexes as well as involving the anus.
A chapter covering various myths and sexual techniques in a question
and answer format along with accompanying pictures and exercises follows
and makes for some very interesting reading.
The book concludes with a chapter on how to spice up one's sex life.
Role-playing fantasies are discussed such as the art of stripping for
your partner from the perspective of the woman or the man stripping
for their mate. Various other role-playing fantasies are also covered
in great detail with practical advice and exercises.
This is an interesting book written by Editor and Sex Therapist Jo-Anne
Baker. Everyone can stand improvement in their sex life and this book
provides the practical answers and techniques to achieve such improvement.
As in her work, Sex Tips: From Men Who Ride The Frontier, the
information presented is practical, helpful, and well written. Both
books are informative and a pleasure to read.
